Live-Action (Intermediate-Hard)
WARNING: Don’t post anything with your face in it on the Internet without parental permission.
Step 0: PREPARE!
You will need:
Editing software (iMovie, Adobe Premier Elements, Windows Movie Maker)
A Camera (preferably 720p and up)
OPTIONAL:
External Microphone
Green Screen (if you want crazy backdrops like the moon.)
Animation Software (for effects like ghosts moving objects, flying people)
Step 1:Create a Story!
Think of an idea for a story. It CAN be complex, but if it uses special effects that you couldn’t possibly make, or a long story you wouldn’t have enough time to make, try something easier. Write a script and include camera, stage, and lighting directions. Cast roles through audition, not by who your best friends are. Make sure that you can collect or create costumes and sets that fit your story.
Step 2: And… Action!
When you film your first scene, remember to get ALL of your actors who are in the scene in the camera’s view. Plug your microphone into your camera for better sound and less tinny dialogue and background noise. Remember, YOU are the director. YOU can stop the filming if an actor or cameraperson or other crewmember makes a mistake. Don’t be timid to do this, without cuts, a film isn’t as good as it could have been with refinements.
Step 3: Edits!
Once you are done filming, export your scenes from your camera to your computer. Using your editing software, glue them together.
TIP: Do not use transitions, as they make films look unprofessional.
Add credits, opening AND closing, all special effects, and most importantly, your soundtrack. A good score can make a great movie better! Don't forget to export your movie to an mp4, mov, or m4v if you are using iTunes.
PRESTO! You've created a movie!
